Birgit Brecknell

Birgit Brecknell (née Planitz) is a research scientist (PhD Eng QUT 2004) and a writer (M Screenwriting for Television QUT 2008). She has held research and project management positions at QUT, UQ, CSIRO, NICTA, UWS, UNSW and the seL4 Foundation.

Her master degree resulted in her first book Frank and Stein: From Research Scientist to Creative Writer, an option for the limited series and representation at Zero Gravity Management. Birgit's first novel Arjuna's Daughter was commended by Mary Jane Skalski, producer of The Station Agent, Mysterious Skin and The Visitor. Her short story Perfect Dolls was shortlisted for [untitled] Issue Eight by Busybird Publishing. She is a member of various writing associations and groups, including the Australian Society for Authors and Writing NSW.

She also dabbles in cartoons (The World of Bob and Ducky) and acting (NIDA Actors Studio, 2026). Birgit lives in Sydney with her soul mate, Matthew Brecknell.
